Eydon Sports Fest'06
Eydon Fundraising Mile
A total of 61 humans - young and old - along with a few canine companions, braved the sizzling temperatures to tackle the one-mile course around the village, ending with a lap of the Eydon Community Sports Field.
If you have any sponsor money from the run/walk, please pass this to the Barry McRoberts, Chair of the Eydon Community Sports Field Committee. Please get the sponsorship money to Barry as soon as possible. The largest individual sponsorship to date is Tom Lewis who's raised £116. Well done Tom.
We’ll publish the final total in the September issue of the EVN and on this page of the village web site as soon as we have the figure.
Thanks to everyone who participated or sponsored those who completed the course.
Kwik Cricket Festival
Youngsters from Culworth, Preston Capes and Napton joined those from Eydon in the first Eydon Kwik Cricket Festival. The 54 players, including a few mum’s, were split into nine teams of six who each played two games in their respective groups, before enjoying a traditional cricket tea.
Following the interval, the group winners, runners-up and third placed teams were then split into three further groups to find an eventual winner with the Wolves taking the honours, the Oilers pitching in for second place and the Indians slipping in third spot.
With the temperature still in the high 20’s and as the clock ticked round to 7pm, Barry McRoberts, Chair of the ECSF, presented each player with a medal to recognise their achievement and contribution to the day.
The Phat Pixies moved into full swing with live music late into the hot summer evening with the day ending around 10.45pm when the beer ran out!
Most of all, thanks go to the kids and mum’s who participated in extremely hot conditions and to everyone who ventured up to the ground to support the day.
We might have to stage the event again next year!
A small selection of the photographs, shot by Guy Reece, can be found clicking the Festival gallery link on this page.
